Treacy's designs are inevitably very technical and he even compared the art of hat designing and wearing as being "like architecture or mathematics". For this reason I personally view Treacy's work as having the same aesthetic quality as a sculpture, for he deliberately shapes and molds the hat to create certain images, silhouettes and even to accentuate and emphasize certain areas of the hat wearer themselves. Moreover the material Treacy uses is also deliberately chosen and painstakingly thought over as the properties of the hat reflects the character of the hat and personality of it's wearer. He uses material as a way of expressing the meaning he wishes to convey in his work.
Key points on Philip Treacy's Work:
I love the way in which Treacy explores different types of materials within each hat. I particularly admire his use of different animal material such as feathers and leather, and the way he manipulates his hats to look like familiar objects and animals such as a telephone, a lobster, butterflies or a bird.

Lady Gaga's Meat Dress
Lady Gaga's Meat Dress
At the 2010 MTV Music Awards Lady Gaga arrived in an outfit made entirely out of raw beef. It was designed by Fran Fernandez and styled by Nicola Formichetti. The dress evoked much controversy and many different and conflicting opinions. For example Ellen DeGeneres, who interviewed Gaga whilst in the meat dress, is a vegan and stated "...as someone who loves animals, it was really difficult for me to sit next to Lady Gaga while she was wearing that outfit". she later added "But it did make me ask myself what's the difference between her outfit and an outfit made of leather?"
Gaga explained following the award ceremony that the dress was a statement about one's need to fight for what they believe in. She stated "If we don't stand up for what we believe in and if we don't fight for our rights, pretty soon we're going to have as much rights as the meat on our bones".

Collectively I'm inspired by both Treacy animal hats and Gaga's meat dress and naturally began researching into traditional butcher shops and their layouts. I'm inspired by the idea of combining all three into an immersive performance piece in which the food products of a butcher's shop are replaced with animal inspired hats.
